Mental health conditions we can help with

Consultant Psychiatrists at Happy Clinic assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health conditions in adults aged 18 and over, all by secure video.

Adult ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder affects focus, organisation, restlessness and impulsivity. Many adults are only diagnosed later in life. Assessment looks at your symptoms now and in childhood.

  • Poor concentration and distractibility
  • Disorganisation and time-blindness
  • Restlessness or impulsivity

Depression

Depression is more than feeling sad for a few days. It is a persistent low mood or loss of interest that affects everyday life. A psychiatrist can help, especially if treatment so far has not worked.

  • Low mood most days for two weeks or more
  • Loss of interest or enjoyment
  • Changes in sleep, appetite and energy

Anxiety & panic disorder

Anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety. Worry or panic becomes hard to control and starts to limit your life.

  • Constant worry you cannot switch off
  • Panic attacks with racing heart or breathlessness
  • Avoiding places or situations

Adult autism

Autism is a lifelong difference in how people communicate, interact and experience the world. An adult assessment can bring understanding and access to support.

  • Finding social situations confusing or tiring
  • Strong preference for routine
  • Sensory sensitivities

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder involves episodes of depression and episodes of very high mood or overactivity (mania or hypomania). Specialist assessment and medication are usually central to treatment.

  • Periods of unusually high energy or little need for sleep
  • Racing thoughts or risky decisions
  • Episodes of deep depression

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

OCD involves unwanted, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repeated actions or mental rituals (compulsions) done to reduce the distress.

  • Intrusive thoughts you cannot dismiss
  • Checking, cleaning or counting rituals
  • Rituals taking up significant time

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop after frightening or distressing events. It can start soon after, or years later.

  • Flashbacks or nightmares
  • Feeling on edge or easily startled
  • Avoiding reminders of the event

Stress & burnout

Long-term stress can lead to exhaustion, poor sleep, irritability and low mood. A psychiatrist can check whether an underlying condition such as depression or anxiety needs treatment.

  • Feeling exhausted and detached
  • Reduced performance at work
  • Physical symptoms of stress

Sleep problems & insomnia

Poor sleep is often linked to mental health. Assessment can uncover causes and guide treatment.

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Waking early and not getting back to sleep
  • Daytime tiredness affecting life

Personality difficulties

Long-standing patterns in how you feel, relate to others and manage emotions can cause real distress. A psychiatrist can assess and recommend the right support.

  • Intense emotions that change quickly
  • Difficult or unstable relationships
  • Feeling empty or unsure of yourself

Psychosis

Psychosis means losing some contact with reality, such as hearing voices or holding unusual beliefs. If symptoms are new or severe, get urgent help through NHS 111 or 999.

  • Hearing or seeing things others do not
  • Paranoid or unusual beliefs
  • Confused thinking

Medication reviews & second opinions

If your current medication is not working or causes side effects, or you want a second opinion on a diagnosis, a psychiatrist can review your treatment.

  • Side effects or little improvement
  • Unsure about a diagnosis
  • Wanting to change or stop medication safely
Happy Clinic does not provide psychological therapies, emergency care, medico-legal reports or benefits assessments. If you are in crisis, call 999, go to A&E, call NHS 111 or call Samaritans on 116 123.
